Ho scattato questa foto nel 2007, alla chiesa delle vele di Meyer a Tor Tre Teste, Roma.
Sinceramente è uno dei miei scatti preferiti, forse sono solamente affezionato ma i colori e la geometria di quel posto mi hanno particolarmente colpito. Dovrei proprio tornarci…
Per la cronaca questa foto è stata scattata con la (ahimé) defunta zenit 122, questo scorcio mi piacque talmente che mi misi a scattare dalla stessa posizione anche in versione 3D con la Loreo!
Nonostante le mie disavventure fotografiche devo dire che qualche buono scatto è uscito fuori: Praga è una città stupenda anche con i lavori in corso a Piazza Venceslao e sul Ponte Carlo (Karlův Most). Per poco non abbiamo trovato la neve, ma in compenso era strapieno di italiani.

In spite of all obstacles I’m satisfied about the photos i took there: Prague is a wonderful city even with repair works in Charles Bridge and Wenceslas Square. We just missed the snow, but there was full of italian tourists.
Inutile citare la maestosità della madonna di Tyn (Týnský Chrám) o le vetrate della cattedrale di San Vito (Katedrála svatého Víta), per non parlare dei personaggi che hanno vissuto in questa città, due su tutti: Franz Kafka e Alfons Mucha. Adoro Kafka e direi che questo per me è stato quasi un pellegrinaggio, purtroppo ho mancato la tomba. Se proprio vogliamo dirla tutta, qui lo scrittore ebreo è diventato una questione di marketing e viene venduto in mille salse, ma questo è solo uno dei lati consumistici di questa città.

I was capured by the beauty of Tyn church and the windows in St. Vitus chatedral, also I have to speak about two of the most famous personalities who lived there: Franz Kafka and Alfons Mucha. I really love Kafka’s writings and this was like a pilgrimage but I missed his grave. The jewish writer is also a great deal for this city: his face is on t-shirts and posters everywhere and this underlines the consumistic side of this city.
Molto interessante e sicuramente simpatica è stata infine la visita al museo del comunismo che propone una esposizione di oggetti e varie ricostruzioni di ambienti del periodo “sovietico”. Chiuso in una teca, in una delle ultime stanze c’era anche un photosniper Zenit…una delizia fotografica in puro stile russo KMZ!

Also intersting and “funny” was our visit to the museum of communism: it proposes an exhibition, installations about the Czech communist years and accurate thematic rooms. Closed in a display cabinet there’s a Zenit photosniper…a rarity from russian KMZ!
Posso dire di aver vissuto una Praga analogica con tutte (ma proprio tutte) le problematiche del caso: gli scatti limitati, la scorta di rullini, le ottiche fisse e il loro peso! Ho comunque un bel ricordo di quel viaggio, Praga è una città interessante anche se infestata ogni giorno in ogni mese dai turisti, come me . Trovare un momento per godersela da soli significa girare in orari assurdi come l’alba (vedi la prima foto al ponte di Carlo). I luoghi più celebri sono sempre quelli più battuti ed ho visto giapponesi farsi foto in tutte le combinazioni possibili per interi quarti d’ora davanti ad una sola statua…ed io ero li ad aspettare che si togliessero di mezzo. “Il mondo è bello perchè è avariato” dicava mia nonna, aveva ragione.

I can say that I lived an analogue Prague, with all its troubles: few shoots, films, fixed lens and its weight! Anyway it was a good trip, Prague is really interesting even if infested by thousands of tourists (like me) every hour, every day. To find a moment to relax and walk alone in the streets you have to wake before the dawn (Charles Bridge’s first photo). The most famous places are the most frequented, some japanese tourists took pictures of themselves in front of a statue in all the possible ways for minutes and minutes…and I was waiting my turn to photograph. My grandma used to say “The world is beautiful because it’s rotten” (it’s a pun for the italian cliché “the world is beautiful because it’s different”) , I think she was right.
Tutto è iniziato con un’attacco a vite M42, con lui sono partito per Praga insieme ad Agnese.
A Marzo nel 2009 faceva un freddo cane, mi ero portato dietro la mia prima fotocamera una Zenit 122 comprata da mio padre nei primi anni ’90, il suo Helios 50/f2 ed il mitico Jupiter 200/f4 da 14 kg. Adesso quando parto per un viaggio mi sento molto più agile e leggero, chissà perchè.

Everything started with an M42 mount, with it I left for Prague together with Agnese.
In March 2009 it was very cold, with me I carried my first camera a Zenit 122 that my father bought in the early ’90s, its Helios 50/f2 and the wonderful and super-heavy Jupiter 200/f4 . Now I understand why I feel more comfortable and light during my latest travel.
La Zenit è una macchina totalmente manuale, solo l’esposimetro a LED testimonia il progresso con le sue tre luci: rossa giu -> sottoesposto, rossa su -> sovraesposto, verde -> ok. I tempi vanno da 1/500 a 1/30 + la posa B, ma nelle mie pose B entrava luce quindi di notte niente foto! C’è la funzione autoscatto, rumorosa come tutto il resto, ma perfettamente funzionante, il contascatti è sulla parte superiore cosi come il selettore ISO e l’otturatore è a doppia tendina.

This Zenit is completely manual, only the LED exposimeter has the signs of evolution with its three lights: red under -> underexposed, red above -> overexposed, green -> ok. Shutter times are from 1/500 to 1/30 + B, but my bulb pose had infiltration of light so I couldn’t take night shoots.This camera has a self timer, noisy but working, the counter is on the top as the ISO selector and it uses a double courtain shutter.
Ad un certo punto della vacanza la macchina ha ceduto (si e sganciato qualche ingranaggio che alza lo specchio), e come se non bastasse l’obiettivo si è aperto. Lo so sembra una cosa da pazzi ma si è aperto ed ancora oggi non riesco a chiuderlo! (In foto sembra normale, ma è appena appoggiato per simulare la normalità).
Quindi kaputt, posso affermare che la mia Zenit è morta a Praga.

Unexpectedly my reflex stopped working (I think for some problem with the mirror) and also the lens unscrewed. I know it sounds crazy but today I still can’t reassemble it! (In the picture it is only leaned to the body to simulate an usual situation).
Kaputt! I can say that my Zenit died in Prague.
A questo punto, dopo aver imprecato contro il cielo per diversi quarti d’ora, ho optato per l’acquisto di una nuova-vecchia reflex con cui riusare i miei obiettivi ad attacco M42 e finire la mia scorta di rullini. In un negozio vicino Václavské náměstí (Piazza Venceslao) ho trovato la mia seconda reflex: una Praktica PLC3. Rumorosa, pesante ma bellissima.

After lots of swearing I decided to buy a new-old reflex with an M42 mount to use my lenses and my little stock of films .I found my second camera, a Praktica PLC3, in a store near Václavské náměstí (Wenceslas Square): this reflex is noisy, heavy but beautiful.
Dopo aver schivato una fregatura dal negoziante sono uscito con la mia Pentacon Praktica PLC3 fiammante: anno di produzione tra il 1978 e il 1983 e assemblata nell’allora DDR. Il corpo di questa fotocamera ha la parte superiore e quella inferiore in metallo a vista, mentre la fascia centrale è coperta in plastica. Il pulsante di scatto è posizionato frontalmente a destra dell’obiettivo, i tempi di scatto vanno da 1/1000 fino ad 1″ +B e l’otturatore questa volta è a lamelle metalliche a scorrimento verticale. L’esposimetro è ancora più spartano della Zenit: una levetta nel mirino si alza e si abbassa a seconda dell’esposizione, inutile dire che di notte bisogna tirare a naso.

Then I went out the shop with my brand-new Pentacon Praktica PLC3: producted bbetween 1978 and 1983 in DDR. The middle part of the body has a leatherette cover, while the top and the bottom are “naked” metal. The shutter release is in the front near the lens, we can choose times from 1/1000 to 1″ + B and the shutter itself is a vertical-travel metal-blade curtain. The exposure meter is less technological than the one on the Zenit: a lever show us if we’re under or above the good exposition, if you wish to take a photo in the dark you have to guess!
