Questo post sarà teorico, purtroppo.
Prendendola alla larga posso dire che quest’anno ad un certo punto ho riscoperto il mercato di Porta Portese ed i suoi banchetti dell’usato fotografico. Nella prima incursione per trenta denari ho acquistato una Kodak Instamatic e una Bencini Koroll 2, due fotocamere particolari di cui parlerò in un altro post.
La seconda incursione è andata peggio: 10 denari per una Petri 7s a telemetro esteticamente in buono stato, con tanto di custodia immacolata, senza funghi sulle ottiche e senza ruggine.
Sembrava un acquisto dignitosissimo, ma come spesso accade in queste circostanze dentro la mia “nuova” fotocamera era in agguato la tanto temuta SOLA.

I recently rediscovered Porta Portese market and its photographic stands: the first time I bought two cameras for 30 € ( a Kodak Instamatic and a Bencini Koroll 2), the second time I spent 10 € for a Petri 7s. This rangefinder camera was in good aesthetic conditions, without fungus or rust and it cames with the original case.
It seemed to me that this could be a good deal, but sometimes you have to be careful even if spending only 10 euros!
Di solito quando acquisto un usato cerco di verificare tutto il verificabile, la apro, provo i diaframmi e l’otturatore, controllo le lenti e via discorrendo. In questo caso eravamo in orario di chiusura del mercato (a quest’ora i venditori sono più inclini a cedere sul prezzo) e ho controllato tutto velocemente, lo scatto andava a vuoto ma per alcune macchine questo è normale se il rullino non è dentro. Tornato a casa inserisco il rullo e “zac!” “zac zac!”, la pellicola avanza ma la fotocamera non scatta! Nonostante le imprecazioni, la situazione ad oggi non è cambiata, la fotocamera continua a non scattare. Ho anche scaricato un manuale di riparazione, l’ho aperta ma niente…il problema per me è tecnicamente impossibile da risolvere.

When I buy second-hand cameras I try to check all that could be checked: iris, shutter, lens and so on…
The market was closing (that’s the best hour to get good offers) and I quickly checked everything, only the shutter wasn’t shooting but I thought it was only a film issue. Some cameras don’t shoot without the film, so I came back home and I insered one 35 mm…”zac!” “zac zac!” nothing happened. The film flows inside but the shutter won’t work! I tried to open the camera following the instruction of a repair manual found on internet but it was useless, I’m unable to do this!
Mi dispiace perchè questa Petri avrebbe potuto farmi divertire.
Si tratta di una fotocamera giapponese 35 mm a telemetro che arriva direttamente dal 1963! La lente è un 45mm f2,8/16, intorno ad essa c’è una cellula al selenio che misura l’esposizione senza bisogno di alimentazione. L’esposimetro è visibile sia dal pannello superiore che dal mirino: una lancetta ci indica se siamo sopra o sotto la giusta esposizione. Le cellule al selenio sono comode proprio perchè non necessitano di alimentazione, ma si rivelano poco affidabili in condizioni di luce scarsa.

I’m really sad because I think that I could have fun with this camera.
It’s a japanese rangefinder 35mm camera from 1963! It has a 45mm f2,8/16 lens with a circular selenium system around it that measures the exposition, it doesn’t needs batteries.
The exposition is visible on the top of the camera and inside the viewfinder, a lever shows if we’re above or under the recommended values. As we said before a selenium cells system is good because doesn’t needs batteries but is not so reliable in low light conditions.
I comandi sono praticamente tutti sul gruppo ottico: diaframma, tempi (1/500 – 1 sec + B), sensibilità della pellicola (10 – 400 ASA) e messa a fuoco. Questi vengono gestiti con la mano sinistra mentre la destra avanza la pellicola e scatta…ergonomicamente posso affermare che la Petri 7s è ben studiata ma richiede un minimo di pratica! Il contapose si trova sulla parte superiore cosi come il contatto a caldo per il flash.
Diciamo che questa è stata la mia prima vera sola fotografica, segno che non ci si può fidare mai e poi mai e poi mai e poi mai di chi vende questi gioiellini. Li vedi li sul banchetto, magari ti sembrano in buone condizioni, li compri pensando che siano i 10/15 euro meglio spesi della settimana e invece no! La sola è sempre dietro l’angolo.
È vero che l’esperienza ci può difendere dalle fregature ma un minimo di rischio c’è sempre.
Io non demordo e continuerò ad accattare ferraglia fotografica, mi piace troppo non posso farci niente! :)

The main controls are on the optical group: iris, shutter times (1/500 – 1 sec + B), ASA settings (10-400) and focus ring. You can control these settings with the left hand while you must shoot and advance the film with your right hand…it seems a good ergonomic solution but it needs some practice! The pose counter is on the top, near the flash hot shoe.
This is the first time I buy something that doesn’t works! You can never, never, never, never, never trust a second-hand dealer. You may be swindled at any time.
We can avoid some hard situations with our experience, but a little percentage survives.
After all I won’t give up and I’ll keep buying old photographic stuff! :)
